Bottom of the Ninth, Man on Third
Please pardon the baseball analogy but I guess it’s the time of year. This certainly has been an exciting game so far and the team has played very well. The strength of our game to this point has been our fundraising. Aside from what I have put in we have raised more from private contributions than the other three candidates combined. Well done!
Over the course of the campaign we’ve been able to execute what I hope will have been an effective print strategy. We have mailed two oversized postcards, one direct mail letter and one bi-fold piece. All together we’ve sent out approximately 150,000 pieces of mail! This was a real team effort with thanks going to all of the volunteers who gave up their time to stuff 15,000 envelopes. We couldn’t have done it without you.
We’ve been able to be on-air for an incredible 10 weeks of TV. We were first up with our ad and have been consistently driving the message of creating jobs, stimulating the economy and reducing debt home with republican viewers in this district. We would not have been able to do this without the funding and resources generated by the campaign fundraising team. Thanks to each and every one of you with special thanks to Bob Marrett and Ken Reutlinger.
I’d also like to thank the staff who has kept the wheels on the bus for the past 4 months. My campaign manager Alyson has been invaluable in helping me to stay focused and on-task. Our assistant treasurer Charlene has done a great job with handling all of our FEC requirements and banking. Finally Kevin has done a terrific job in coordinating volunteer efforts and executing the ground work necessary to get signs out and knock on doors. I appreciate all of the hard work that everyone has done.
We’ve yet to play the bottom of the ninth and as I sit on the “Reetz for Congress” bus composing this I can’t help but feel extremely excited and optimistic about the election on Tuesday May 18th. Please help us finish strong by talking with all of your friends and neighbors over the next few days and urge them to vote on Tuesday. I’ve got my rally cap on!
My next Reetz Report will be after the election on May 19th. I’m looking forward to talking about how we’ll approach the next phase of the campaign.
Best,
Jeff

The Onslaught Continues
Many Americans breathed a deep sigh of despair after passage of the Health Care Reform Bill. I think that many thought they had seen the worst to come for a while. That doesn’t appear to be the case.
John Yarmuth and the Democrats are continuing to mount their assault on our free market system and long-standing economic principles with new legislation aimed at:
- Government run retirement plans including Guaranteed Retirement Accounts. These would replace your 401K with government administered programs backed by taxpayer money. Government can’t effectively run Social Security, what makes us think they’ll do any better with our retirement programs?
- Growing big government. This week the Gallup organization released their Job Creation Index for April. It reports that the Federal Government is outpacing the public sector in job creation! As the government takes more of our hard earned money to pay for government created jobs the less we will have for job creation in the private sector. Clearly, John Yarmuth and the Democrats are continuing to attempt to transfer the wealth of the nation from the people to the government and with it our economic freedom.
- Lack of accountability. The Democrat controlled House has been unwilling to pass a budget because they know they must “face the music.” Another budget with huge deficits will not bode well for them in November. John Yarmuth has done nothing to call for the passage of a budget and by his lack of action allows the country to wallow in economic turmoil.
I am committed to representing the citizens of the third district. This means doing more listening than talking. It means being available and accessible to the people who have concerns and being responsive. It means making the best use of your personal experiences and skills for the benefit of the people you represent every time you vote or introduce legislation.
There is an unrelenting effort on behalf of those who believe that government is the “answer” for America and that making it bigger and more powerful over its citizens is best for our future. The people of the third district need a Congressman who will fight FOR them, not against them. I’ve taken on tough tasks all my life and have been successful in doing so. I will do no less for the people of Louisville and the third district!
Jeff
The Reetz Report May 4, 2010
In two short weeks we will know which Republican candidate will run against John Yarmuth in November 2010. Over the past four months we’ve done our best to get out our message to voters. In the final two weeks we will be working to “close the deal” with voters here in the third district. I am confident that our efforts will ensure a victory on May 18th.
There are two key priorities for us as we close out this primary campaign:
1. Fundraise, Fundraise, and Fundraise. With a win on May 18th we will need to start working immediately on the general election. If you have friends who have been “sitting on the fence” until after the primary they should expect a call from you on May 19th. I have my list ready to go.
Thanks to those of you who have given so freely of your time to help us raise the money needed to run this campaign. A special thanks to Bob Marrett and his team of volunteers who came in on April 28th. They raised $4500 in two hours!
2. Raise Awareness. We will be out with the Reetz for Congress Bus the last week of the campaign and invite you to join us as we rally the city of Louisville to vote on May 18th. We will be publishing a list of stops, dates and times. Please join us if you can!
We also have about 400 more yard signs to get out. Kevin and Alyson will be working on that in the days to come. If you can display a yard sign or know someone who will please let us know.
Talk us up to your friends and families and encourage all of them to vote! The key to victory in May and November is to have OUR voters at the polls!

The Reetz Report April 27, 2010
We Can’t Take Our Eye Off the Ball
A few short weeks ago Congress passed a Healthcare bill that the majority of Americans said they did not want or support. At last count 20 states had begun the process of suing the federal government over this bill. Clearly the fight is not over and when I go to Congress I will carry the fight to the floor of the House with our Repeal and Replace plan. Republicans must re-take control of Congress in November!
Today, Nancy Pelosi and the democrats have your attention. They would like you to focus on Financial Reform and Regulation, Immigration and Cap and Trade. While they are doing this they continue to shirk their responsibility to address the issues that most Americans feel are our true priorities:
- Jobs
- The Economy
- The Debt
Unemployment continues to hover around 10% nationally and is 12.1% here in the 3rd District. What has John Yarmuth done to CREATE jobs in Louisville? Our economy is still stagnant and we don’t see any signs of real growth ahead. What has John Yarmuth done to STIMULATE our economy with new technology and industry? Our Debt continues to grow on a daily basis and will end the year at $14.3 Trillion. What has John Yarmuth done to cut spending and reduce the debt?
The answer to all of the questions above is (sadly) NOTHING. Yarmuth continues to spend, spend and spend. He has introduced no legislation that will reduce our unemployment. He has done nothing to bring new industry and technology to Louisville so that we can get our local economy moving again. He has done nothing to cut spending in Washington. Instead he caters to and curries the favor of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her ultra-liberal agenda.
In November we will have the opportunity to begin to right the course of America. We must REPLACE Congressmen like Yarmuth who seem bent on implementing their own agenda rather than representing and helping the people of Louisville. His lack of responsiveness to our needs and issues must not be rewarded with another term in Congress. Please join me as we work together to bring John Yarmuth home!
Immigration
Many have asked what my stand is on Immigration. There is no doubt that we must work to effectively “seal” our borders so that the only people who enter our country do so legally. We must ensure that we provide the proper resources to our Border Patrols and Border States so that they may do this.
I am against any type of amnesty program for those who are here illegally today. I do not believe we should provide any benefits such as social security to anyone who is not a citizen of this country. We must do a better job of identifying those who are here illegally and forwarding that information to the INS for action.
There is a reason that people want to come to America. We are the land of opportunity and success. We have a process for assimilating those people and we must adhere to that process. This applies to EVERYONE coming to this country.
Education
Education is the responsibility of the States and Kentucky is no different than the rest. We recognize that our educational system is failing our children and our country today and that we must take action now to stop it. I have outlined a possible solution in my Energy Technology proposal to begin to refocus our educational system on Math and Science. That, however, doesn’t solve the entire problem.
As your Congressman I will work closely with State and Federal officials on programs designed to help schools improve education for their children. Education, however, is NOT teaching children how to take proficiency tests so that the schools or teachers may boast of high academic achievement when, in fact, their kids have only learned how to take a test. We must put real metrics in place to determine whether our children are truly “learning” what they will need to be successful or simply regurgitating answers to a test they were prepared for.

Crunch Time
We recently completed some internal polling to determine how best to finish out our campaign push for the GOP primary on May 18 (yes, only 24 days away!) There were some interesting findings:
* We expect record Republican turnout for the PRIMARY. More voters than ever seem to be engaged and will be voting. This is largely due to the Mayoral and Senate races that have gotten most of the attention. (This is also great news for the election in November!)
* What we have been doing in our campaign has been working and we clearly have the opportunity to win the primary.
* Since there are four candidates, and this will be a close race.
Based upon our findings we will be making some adjustments to our efforts between now and the primary. I will need your help in order to do this.
In order to fully execute our plan we need to raise another $20,000 between now and the primary. I will be calling everyone that I have spoken to over the past four months to ask for your help again in accomplishing this goal. This can be the “difference maker” in the campaign. I am counting on your help!
Victory Week
Miller Trailways has generously agreed to provide a bus for us to use in the campaign. We will be taking the bus (with appropriate “Reetz for Congress” signage) to various events and locations throughout the city during the week prior to the campaign. The idea is to generate as much excitement and awareness as possible before the election. We are putting together the days, times and locations now. We would love to have as many supporters with us as on the bus and at these events we make our final push. Please mark your calendars now!
Yard Signs/Bumper Stickers
If you are able to put a yard sign out at your business or home please let us know. Kevin is in the process of distributing the rest of our yard signs over the next week. If you haven’t already contacted him at kevin@reetzforcongress.com please do so at your convenience and let him know if you are able to display a yard sign. (Or you can call campaign HQ at 502-244-5805.)
Also, bumper stickers are a great way to build name awareness for the primary. If you’d like one or more, just let us know!
Thanks again for all of your support. Our campaign is doing well and we are starting to pick up support from organizations like the NRCC and others. We need to finish strong over the next couple of weeks to build momentum for Victory in November!

The Reetz Report April 20, 2010
“Crunch Time”
With less than a month before the primary we are in the final phase of our campaign. I am happy to report that we have been able to execute all of the critical elements of our campaign and the message is getting through! We won’t have our polling information until Wednesday but I suspect that we will be happy with the results. If not, we still have time to adjust our message and tactics to carry us to victory in May.
This last month is also very important for fundraising and volunteer recruitment. With a victory in May we will need to hit the ground running for the general election. Taking our campaign to the “next level” will require significant funding and volunteer involvement. Please encourage your friends and associates to go to our website, www.reetzforcongress.com and sign up to volunteer, contribute or both. John Yarmuth is beatable in November if we work hard and campaign well. I am committed to doing both.
Good News
Over the weekend I received a call from the National Republican Congressional Committee to inform me that they have officially recognized our campaign and have us “on the radar screen.” This is good news as it means that we will be working more closely with the team in Washington and will have the benefit of their expertise and support. This clearly takes our campaign to the next level. Thanks to all of you who have helped us reach this important milestone! (Please read the press release on "Jeff Reetz Advances to "On the Radar" in the NEWS tab of this website and also at www.nrcc.org )
Financial Reform
As you no doubt are aware, the Obama Administration has taken on Wall Street and is proposing significant financial reform. Wall Street has done little to endear itself to the public and is generally “disliked” by most Americans. Be that as it may, we cannot afford to allow legislation that gives the Government the power to step in and take over “failing” companies. This disrupts our Free Market system and starts us on a road to economic policy that we don’t want or need. We will be watching this closely.
Thank you for your continued support!
Win in May, Victory in November!

The Reetz Report April 16, 2010
To Run a Good Campaign You Need Volunteers and Financial Resources
On April 15 each of the candidates filed their first quarter reports with the Federal Election Commission. The results were as follows:
Candidate Funds Raised Cash on Hand
Jeff Reetz $177,600 $136,000
Todd Lally $91.000 $41,000
Larry Hausman $24,600 $13,000
Brooks Wicker Not Available Not Available
As you can see, we have raised almost twice the amount of money as the next closest candidate and have three times as much cash on hand. Thanks to all of you who have donated so generously so that we can communicate our message to the voters of the third district. Our ability to raise money will be essential to winning the election not only in May but more importantly in November. Special thanks to my fundraising committee!
Can I Trust You?
At a recent TEA Party event a young lady asked me that question as she was making up her mind on who to vote for (for the first time in her life!) After a moment I responded that “I have seven hundred employees who wake up every day trusting me to make the right decisions relating to my business. These decisions affect the strength of my company and ultimately the welfare of those 700 people.”
I will use the same critical decision making process that has made me a successful small business owner when I am a Congressman in Washington. I will make sure that we are able to grow our economy and create and maintain jobs long-term. After all, I’ve been doing that for 10 years. I will make decisions that apply fairly to all and not favor one group at the expense of another. I will not spend money that we as a country don’t have and will vote AGAINST any and all legislation that puts our Country further in debt.
As your Congressman I will work each and every day to earn your trust and keep that trust as long as I am in Office. I believe Honesty and Integrity are two of the most essential qualities of any elected official. I will not let you down!
Thank you for your continued support!
Win in May, Victory in November!

In Case You Missed It
Our grand opening event at the Hurstbourne Parkway Headquarters was a smashing success! We had over 60 folks through the office during the event and handed out lots of yard signs and campaign material. I appreciate all of the help and support we received from everyone. I’m confident that with the team of supporters that we have we will Win the Primary in May and Achieve Victory in November.
On Monday of this week I attended the Candidate Forum that was broadcast on KET. I enjoyed the opportunity to talk with the other candidates about the issues and explain my position and vision to the viewers. I have received excellent feedback from those who watched the broadcast.
As we move toward the May 18 primary each candidate is “staking out” his position relative to how they want voters to think of them. I’ve tried to make my message as clear and focused as possible: “35 years of business leadership experience. Small business owner with 700 employees who understands what it means to sign the front as well as the back of a paycheck. A lifetime of creating jobs and growing businesses. Relevant experience that I will be able to apply in Congress from Day 1.”
In the coming weeks we will further differentiate ourselves in order to give voters the opportunity to choose the candidate they feel will best represent them in the third district. I believe I’m that candidate and will do my best to convey that to the people I speak with. I consider feedback a “gift” and would welcome yours as we move along this path together. Thank you!

FACE TO FACE
Over the past two weeks I have had the opportunity to host three Pizza Hut events and attend two University Young Republican meetings among others. The voter interest in the candidates running for office is very high and Republicans are anxious for a candidate who has the experience, passion and commitment to represent the third district. What is interesting is that the issues that concern voters most remains constant across the groups I visit with. They want solutions on:
- Jobs
- The Economy
- Debt
In addition almost everyone wants to know how we’ll deal with the disastrous health care bill that was recently passed.
My solutions are straightforward and will help to move our country forward by helping all Americans.
Jobs - Make the Bush tax cuts permanent. Reduce personal income taxes by an additional ten percent. We must put more money in the hands of Americans in order to stimulate spending. Consumer spending creates jobs. The jobs that are created create more jobs.
The Economy - Creating jobs is the first step. Developing new industries and technology that will in turn create new, high paying jobs for the future is the next step. As a leader in Congress I will work to identify and foster new industries in our country. One possible industry is Energy Technology. We must find and develop the energy platform that will carry us through the 21st century and into the 22nd. With new technology we can lead the world in energy development.
Debt - Americans know that we can’t keep racking up debt. They’ve seen what happens in their own lives. They expect government to be fiscally responsible stewards of their tax dollars and ensure their national financial security. Most would agree that our government has done a terrible job of this over the past decade and that the problem is only growing worse.
The solution to the debt crisis is rooted in three basic principles:
* Create jobs that pay taxes and increase revenues.
* Cut government spending. Implement a “do more with less” mentality.
* Implement viable solutions to Social Security and Medicare immediately.
Health Care - I support a Repeal and Replace approach to Health Care. In addition, virtually every aspect of the bill will require Congress to vote to provide funding. For example, with Republican control of the House we can ensure that the funding to hire the 16,000 IRS agents specified in the Health Care Bill does not pass.
The voters in the third district know that Congressman Yarmuth is interested in his own agenda and that of the Democrats over the needs and concerns of his constituents. He has been the pawn of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in her efforts to force a radically liberal agenda on Americans. We don’t want a terrible Health Care Bill, a job killing Cap and Trade bill or union-driven legislation like Card Check. Yarmuth has voted YES on all of these bills!
I will work every day to represent the voters of the third district. I will not vote for any legislation that will add to the national debt with the only possible exception of national defense; no matter which party sponsors it. I won’t “trade favors,” bend to “special interests” or allow my vote to be “bought.” The People of Louisville and the third district deserve better than that.
I need your help to do this - The best candidates in the country with the best ideas are of no use if they are not elected to office. To Win in May and Achieve Victory in November I need you to do the following:
* Go to www.reetzforcongress.com and sign up on the volunteer page. We need folks who can walk neighborhoods, display yard signs, make phone calls, stuff envelopes and attend rallies. If you can think of it, we probably need it.
* Help us financially, if you can. Doing each of the activities above is important however we need to get our message out to everyone in the district. The only way to do that is to reach them through the mail or on television or radio. We have been doing both but need your support to continue through the primary and even more so for November. No amount is too small and $2,400 per person is the limit.
* Talk with your friends, host a get together or a fund raiser. Your personal endorsement of a candidate is a very powerful thing. Your friends will be influenced by your passion and commitment. Contact us at www.reetzforcongress.com if you need assistance with this.
WE CAN DO THIS!
In a recent WHAS/Courier Journal poll only 27% of those polled said they would vote for John Yarmuth no matter who ran against him in November. This leaves 73% of the voters either against him or undecided. 27% is NOT a strong approval rating and voters here are unhappy with how our government and John Yarmuth are leading our Country.
I won’t promise you “Change you can believe in” but I will apply the Real Experience I have gained over the past thirty-five years in business to help businesses create jobs for Americans. I will use the Real Leadership I’ve gained in owning my own business with 700 employees to introduce Real Solutions in Congress. Solutions like those I’ve outlined above. You do have my promise that I will work hard every day I’m in office for the people of Louisville and the third district. You can “believe” in that.
I am as confident as ever that with your support and vote I can win the elections in May and November and help to get our Country back on the right path. The time is right for a change for Louisville and I’m ready to serve!

Yarmuth Meets with Rotary Club
I had the opportunity to attend the Rotary Club luncheon this week as a guest of Glen Stuckel and was able to hear our Congressman speak. I was not surprised to hear Yarmuth lay blame at the feet of the Media (Fox News), Big Money (The Lobbyists) and the Senate (!) for lack of progress in Washington. He went on to criticize Mitch McConnell, take a jab at Ann Northup (not warranted) and tell us all that he "travels in different circles" than we do.
We deserve a Congressman who will listen to our concerns and take personal responsibility for their actions, or lack thereof, in Washington. We need a Congressman who travels in the same circles that we do in order to more accurately represent our needs and concerns. With your support in May and November I will go to Washington for the express purpose of representing the citizens of Louisville and work to Put Louisville First.
Jefferson County Unemployment Reaches 12%
While our Congressman is off "making history" by forcing the passage of the onerous Health Care Bill, unemployment in his home district continues to grow. Rather than put his primary focuses on creating jobs, stimulating the economy and reducing our debt, Yarmuth forced Health Care on Americans, voted for Cap and Trade and supported Card Check. As one of the nine "Pelosi Insiders" Yarmuth is busy at work on the unpopular liberal agenda while ignoring the needs of his constituents back home.
I have spent my entire career growing businesses and creating jobs. As your Congressman I will work hard to put Louisvillians back to work!
Jeff Reetz statement on Yarmuth’s Continued Support for Job Killing Policies
(Louisville) On the heels of the passage of the Yarmuth supported Nationalized Health Care, comes the news that unemployment has risen to 12 percent in Jefferson County – this represents an almost 2 percentage point increase over last year’s reports (The Courier Business Journal 4/2/10).

This past weekend I spoke at a Kentucky Gun Right’s Rally on the steps of the Capitol Building in Frankfort. It was good to see so many people involved and enthusiastic about protecting the Second Amendment. I find this to be a very important issue and was honored to talk about how I plan to protect that right and give my support for the Kentucky Second Amendment March and other associations such as the NRA.
Also, our second printed material is scheduled to drop April 1st. Please look for it in your mailboxes.
As The Dust Settles
Congress is in recess for the Spring Break so everyone will have a chance to pause and reflect on the legislation that has been passed and where things appear to be headed. It is most likely that the Democrats will begin to push on Immigration Reform when they return to Washington. I’ll keep you posted as that time approaches.
Other legislation like Cap and Trade and Card Check could get new life now that the Democrats have found their legs. As you may know, Obama used the Spring recess to push through some appointments that had been in the Senate. One of those appointments was a highly controversial labor union attorney who was appointed to the Labor Relations Board. Moves like these favor advancing the Card Check bill through on more of a regulatory basis rather than legislation. Obama and the Dems are using every trick in the book to advance their liberal agenda.
Campaign Status
We have had a very successful first quarter and have raised over $150,000 for the campaign. This will allow us to continue our direct mail and TV campaign through the primary in May and will help us build a head of steam for the November election. We must keep the full court press on fundraising. If you haven’t donated to the $40 for 40 please consider doing so now.
40 for 40!
In November of this year we have the chance to take back control of Congress. Republicans need to pick up 40 seats in Congress to do this. I hope to be one of those forty! Please help me by donating to the “40 for 40” drive by going to our website and making a contribution of $40 between now and March 31st. Let’s take back Congress and restore control to what is clearly an out-of-control, spend-thrift democrat controlled group.

We had a great week this week raising money. Thank you again to Chris and Laura Pruniski and Mary Ellen and Richard Stottmann for hosting a fundraiser for me at their homes. We enjoyed the opportunity to speak with their friends about their concerns and what I am going to do to help once I get elected. If you would like to host a fundraiser at your house please contact Alyson at alyson@reetzforcongress.com. I would also like to thank those who have gone online and donated $40 for the 40 for 40. Your donations will go a long way in helping me to defeat John Yarmuth in November and help regain 40 Republican seats in Congress.
As If We Don't Have Enough Reasons
Within the past week Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and John Yarmuth have crammed a Health Care Bill that the majority of Americans did not want down our throats. The result; at least 14 state Attorneys General have filed lawsuits arguing that the bill is unconstitutional. Voters here in Louisville are o utraged as evidenced by what I hear when I am out campaigning.
To add to that President Obama mocked Republican concerns about the bill yesterday in a speech given in Iowa. You can go to http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20100325/NEWS09/100325023/Obama-Go-for-it-to-GOP-campaigning-on-health-care-repeal and listen to the speech. I think we expect more from a President or is this the "change we can believe in?"
We need to pick up 40 seats to re-take Congress in November of this year in order to begin the "repeal and replace" process on Health Care. If you're as concerned as I am over the lack of responsiveness that our democrat leaders have of our concerns please go to www.reetzforcongress.com/contribute and donate $40 to our "40 for 40" campaign. We can restore accountability to Washington with your help!
Upcoming Events

Yesterday I attended a Rand Paul Rally in front of John Yarmuth’s office downtown to express our concerns of his recent vote on the healthcare legislation and to call him home from Washington, DC. It was good to see so many concerned citizens and people who want to get involved and get him out of Congress.

We officially moved into our new campaign headquarters this past weekend. We are still working on getting everything set up and are very excited. Look for our grand opening party to come in the near future. We are located at 215 S. Hurstbourne Pkwy Suite 201 Louisville, KY 40222.
ObamaCare Press Release
The following is my official statement in response to the travesty of the healthcare bill being passed last Sunday.
March 21, 2010 Jeff Reetz for Congress 2010
For Immediate Release: contact: Alyson Reetz 502-244-5805
Jeff Reetz reacts to the House Passage of ObamaCare
(Louisville) Jeff Reetz issued the following statements regarding the passage of Health Care “reform” in the House tonight:
“Today is a sad day for all Americans. I am deeply concerned and upset that Congressman Yarmuth and his best friends in Washington, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, are not only ignoring our Constitution, but are also clearly not listening to the millions of Americans that are opposed to this massive expansion of government.”
“Like many Louisvillians, I am strongly opposed to this legislation and when elected this November, my first order of business will be to repeal this massive expansion of government.”
“I find it appalling that John Yarmuth and his colleagues are telling the American public that this is the largest middle class tax cut ever enacted. A tax cut implies that the public would receive an increase in their take home pay, but instead this bill will force at least 46 percent of those families making less than $66,150 to pay an individual mandate tax.”
“If this bill included a tax cut then why on earth would the bill also provide for the addition of more than 16,000 new IRS employees?”
“Despite President Obama’s pledge not to raise one tax for those making less than $250,000, this Health Care bill violates that pledge 12 times and raises more than $569 billion in new taxes.”
“As a small business owner, I am extremely disappointed in the actions of Congressman Yarmuth and his best friend Nancy Pelosi for insisting on the implementation of more than $52 billion in new taxes on employers who cannot afford to pay “Government mandated minimum” employee health care, particularly when unemployment stands at 9.7%. Once again Yarmuth isn’t putting Louisville first, he is putting the Government First!”
“I recognize that our Health Care system needs reform but we need to tackle this reform within the confines of our Constitution and utilizing the free market principles we hold so dear in this country. Please visit my website at www.reetzforcongress.com for more information about my Health Care Plan. ”

On Thursday we had the opportunity to address the “FACES of Coal” rally in Jefferson Square park downtown. Coal is a vital part of the KY economy and I voiced my support for the industry. Did you know that the Environmental Protection Agency is “holding” 49 mining permits from the state of KY? Those permits represent approximately 15,000 jobs! (The average coal worker makes about $60,000/yr. so these are not insignificant jobs.)
Upcoming Events
On March 22 the Rand Paul Campaign is staging a rally in front of John Yarmuth’s office downtown. The gathering starts at noon. We will be there. Please contact Kevin@reetzforcongress.com if you would like to attend the rally.
We have two fundraisers scheduled for the 24th and 25th of March. I’m looking forward to meeting and talking with many supporters. (For details contact Charlene Stumler @502.244.5805.)

Health Care
It looks as though there will be a vote on the Health Care bill this weekend. If you have the time please call John Yarmuth’s office and ask him to vote NO. The number for his office is:
Washington (202)225-5401
Louisville Downtown (502)582-5129
Louisville Dixie Hwy (502)933-5863
Americans cannot afford this Health Care Bill and we do NOT want Government run Health Care!
What’s New This Week
If you haven’t watched Fox News in the past couple of days you might want to tune in. We started our first TV ad on Wednesday. We have also gotten quite a bit of “free media” from the press release we sent out about it. On Thursday over 40,000 registered republican voters received my first oversized postcard mailing. We are starting to separate our campaign from the others and need your continued support to take this to the next level!
New Campaign Headquarters
Over the next two weeks we will be relocating our campaign headquarters to a new location. Stay tuned for more details and be ready to come and celebrate at our grand opening! Details to follow.

Thanks to our volunteers who attended the events at the Evangelical Conference Center on Saturday and the Young Republicans Straw Poll and political forum on Sunday. I have to say that those “Reetz for Congress” t-shirts look great and make an excellent impression. Keeping our name out there and having high visibility are important to achieving the name recognition necessary to win the primary in May and the general election in November.
Upcoming Events
The Metropolitan Women’s Republican Club forum for the Senate candidates has been cancelled for this Wednesday March 17. Thanks to those of you who volunteered to attend the event and hand out Reetz For Congress materials.
Mark your calendars for Monday March 22. There will be a Republican Congressional Rally at the John Yarmuth offices here in Louisville. This event is being sponsored by the Rand Paul for Senate campaign. More details to follow as they become available.
On Saturday March 27 there will be a KY Gun Rights Rally held in Frankfort at the State Capitol. More details to follow.
March is Fundraising Month
Only 15 days left in the financial reporting quarter for candidates running for office. Each and every contribution we receive goes a long way at demonstrating the support that the voters in Louisville have of our campaign and ensuring a win in the primary. This will also show those who are following the race that we will be able to mount a well-financed and effective campaign in the general election. If you would like to know more about how you can help raise money for the campaign please contact Alyson Reetz at 502.244.5805.
Health Care
As I am writing this edition of the Reetz Report, Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats, including John Yarmuth, are continuing to meet behind closed doors to find a way to force the Health Care bill through Congress. Yarmuth would have us accept the “Cornhusker Kickback” and “Louisiana Purchase” and the carve outs that were done for Florida just to get any health care bill passed. (This bill doesn’t even include the “Single Payer Option” of which he was so adamant about in the House Bill.) Is that the kind of leadership we deserve in the 3rd District?
No matter what happens with Health Care this week, voters need to remember how Yarmuth “forced” his will over the will of his constituents on Health Care. That fact alone is reason enough to “retire” Yarmuth in November.
What’s New This Week
Beginning Tuesday of this week over 40,000 registered Republicans will receive our first direct mail post card designed to introduce them to my campaign and tell them a little about me. Beginning Wednesday we will start airing our first television spots on Fox News. This will be the week in which we begin to separate our campaign from that of the others. Please e mail us with your comments on our TV spot.

Did you know?
Nancy Pelosi is working hard behind closed doors to bribe, strong-arm and force House democrats to support and pass the Health Care bill that Americans have resoundingly said they do not want. Americans are being forced to accept the "Cornhusker Kickback" and "Louisiana Purchase" which were part of getting the Senate bill passed and that the House is now voting
on. Americans have to wonder what other "deals" are being made within the Democratic party that we, as taxpayers, will have to pay for?
Do not be fooled, once the bill is passed it will NOT be reconciled effectively to address the areas of concern that members of Congress have and voters as well. The Democrats feel they need a "win" and will stop at nothing to get it, including promises to "fix" a bill they know is broken after it has been passed.
Go to www.nrcc.org/CodeRed for an update on the progress of this bill and the Democrats efforts to get the votes to pass it.
Keep the Faith
In November we will have the chance to send a strong message to Congress and President Obama. As your Congressman the first vote I will be able to make in Washington will be to elect a new Speaker of the House. With the blatant disregard for the wishes of the American citizens they vowed to serve, the Democrat controlled Congress will be short-lived.

Since Congress passed the stimulus bill last year over 3.3 million more jobs have been lost. The job losses continue to mount and Congress still does not get it. The recent jobs bill is an indication of how the Democrats and Congress get it backwards. In order to create jobs you must have consumer demand for the products those jobs will produce. In my world it’s like having a kitchen full of employees ready to make and serve pizza but an empty dining room. As long as the dining room is empty those jobs will not be sustainable and permanent. Congress needs to lower taxes and put more money into the hands of Americans in order to get the economy moving and jobs created.

STATEMENT FROM JEFF REETZ, CANDIDATE FOR 3RD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT, ON HOUSE PASSED JOBS BILL

I had the opportunity to meet with the Metropolitan Women's Republican Club on Thursday evening and listened to Scott Jennings give an overview of the 2010 races. It looks as though there will be a lot of opportunities for Republicans to pick up seats in November. His view on the third congressional district here in Louisville is that it is competitive depending on the Republican candidate. All the more reason to make sure we win the Republican primary in May in a BIG way.

Enclosed with this Reetz Report is a letter from the Associated Builders and Contractors pertaining to the current jobs bill in Congress. Simply stated, unless you create demand for the services that new employees will provide, what will tax incentives to hire new employees do? We must create consumer demand through tax cuts that put enough dollars in the hands of consumers to get them spending again. Consumer spending creates jobs.

Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.
March 4, 2010
United States House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Representative:
On behalf of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), a national association with 77 chapters
representing 25,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms with two million employees, I
am writing in regard to the Senate amendment to H.R 2847, the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment
Act, to be voted on today in the House of Representatives. While ABC agrees that action should be taken in
order to help create jobs, we believe the provisions in the Senate amendment will do nothing to create
significant job growth in the construction industry or any other industry.
The construction industry has lost 1.9 million jobs since December 2007, including 75,000 in January 2010
alone, and the current unemployment rate stands at nearly 25 percent. Simply providing employers with tax
incentives to hire new employees will not solve the crux of the problem currently facing our industry: the
lack of projects on which our member companies can work.
In order for the construction industry to emerge out of this dire situation, ABC believes the following issues
must be addressed immediately:
Congressional legislative and federal regulatory anti-business proposals have created an
environment of economic uncertainty in the business community that is negatively impacting the
economic recovery of the construction industry. The outcome of these proposals is unclear, which in
turn has caused much uncertainty in the industry and difficulty for firms to adequately plan for the
future. Currently, employers are unwilling to hire additional employees or invest in equipment or
facilities. ABC believes job creation in the construction industry is best fostered in a pro-business
environment where free enterprise and open competition are unconstrained.
The freeze on lending for private sector construction projects must be addressed immediately. The
long delays in lending or outright refusals by financial institutions to fund private sector projects
have had an extremely detrimental impact on the construction industry. Many ABC members have
viable, low-risk projects/contracts that simply need funding in order for work to commence.
A comprehensive energy plan will benefit all Americans through less expensive, more stable energy
supplies. The potential dividend for the construction industry is considerable. The nation’s energy
infrastructure is insufficient and crumbling; new construction and upgrades to plants and
transmission infrastructure are desperately needed. ABC is committed to ensuring these new projects
are built with open competition and without government-mandated project labor agreements.
Davis-Bacon Act requirements on stimulus funds must be lifted. Many small and minority-owned
businesses are not equipped to navigate the maze of paperwork required to work on Davis-Bacon
projects, and many simply will not bid on these projects.
Any effort to stimulate the construction industry must use taxpayer dollars efficiently, and must
award projects based solely on merit. Long-term economic success includes the participation of the
entire construction workforce, regardless of union affiliation, on federal and/or federally funded
construction projects. Federal agencies should be prohibited from requiring union-only project labor
agreements on these projects.
It is clear that we are facing unprecedented economic challenges, and ABC members large and small are
eager to stimulate growth and spur job creation. We appreciate Congress’ realization that something must be
done to help stimulate growth in a faltering economy. However, we do not believe the Senate amendment to
H.R. 2847, the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act, will create the jobs needed within our
industry.
Sincerely,
Brewster B. Bevis
Senior Director, Legislative Affairs
Associated Builders and Contractors

Jobless Benefits and Senator Jim Bunning
It takes courage to stand up for what you believe in and go against the Washington Machine. Senator Bunning has taken a stand on extending jobless benefits by asking Congress to say how they will pay for the additional $10 Billion needed to fund this program. Congress enacted “Pay as You Go” earlier this year and Senator Bunning is holding them to it. I support Senator Bunning and encourage more Senators and Congressmen to hold the line on out of control spending by Congress.

What will it take to Win in May and November?
Many of you have asked me what it will take to win. The answer is pretty straightforward. We must raise $400,000 to fund the primary race and about $2,000,000 for the general election. We must enlist the support and energy of hundreds of volunteers to help us knock on doors, make phone calls and stuff envelopes.

No donation to our campaign is too small. If you have already given to the campaign please accept my sincerest thanks. If you have the ability to contribute more it would be very helpful. Individuals may contribute up to $2400. per election cycle. We have the ability to win this primary and have a very good chance to win in November but it will take the financial support and hard work of a great many people to do so. My thanks in advance for your consideration.
Good Weather Means Knocking on Doors
If you would like to join me in walking a few neighborhoods this weekend please e-mail me at jeff@reezforcongress.com . The weather should be about the nicest it’s been in weeks. Voters love it when you come to their door and let them know you care enough about the candidate and the process to invest your personal time in something like this.

Recent Events
I had the opportunity to visit with California Congressman Kevin McCarthy on the phone this weekend and we discussed my campaign. The Congressman had a number of great ideas that we will incorporate into our campaign plan. I appreciate his support and the help from the other folks at the National Republican Congressional Committee as I make my run for Congress.

Unemployment Benefits
As you may be aware, Congress continues to extend unemployment benefits for those currently out of work. While I don't want to see anyone suffer, the reality is that by doing this Congress is actually sustaining the high level of unemployment by creating a dis-incentive for folks to return to work.

I met with a supporter last week who owns a major manufacturing company here in Louisville. His business has been very successful and they are holding their own in this economy. He told me he is looking to hire 10 employees at his firm. These jobs pay in the range of $40 to $60,000 a year, have health and retirement benefits, yet he can't seem to fill them. He's convinced that by continuing unemployment benefits people are finding it easier to stay at home and collect a check rather than get back to work.
Congress must address this issue. Even in my own business we have jobs that we can't seem to fill because the applicant pool is very thin. With unemployment at 10% there is something wrong. Unemployment benefits were never meant to support a person for life. Congress must scale these benefits back over time in order to encourage those not working to get back into the work force.
The Week Ahead
We will continue to focus on fundraising for the balance of the month and will be attending several fundraisers. Thanks to the Fund Raising Committee for their help and support in identifying potential donors and helping to develop call lists. I greatly appreciate your efforts and support.

Dear Friends,
Hello and I hope you all are having a good week.
Recent Events
Thanks to Tony and Fran Mastropaolo for inviting me to come to their home yesterday evening and meet some of their friends and neighbors. I enjoyed speaking with them about why I am running and the issues that they are concerned about. I got a lot of great insight and feedback. I also want to thank Steve Trager for inviting me to come to the Republic Bank Luncheon, it was a great opportunity to meet some more folks and introduce myself. We are getting a lot of things going and continuing to build momentum.
Health Care Update
For those of you who may not be aware, the White House is pushing forward on Health Care legislation that is, for lack of a better description, a knock-off of the most recent Senate plan. The following is an e mail I received from the US Chamber of Commerce.
Health Care Fight is Back
New Proposal -- Same Old Talking Points
Dear Friend,
The last time we updated you on the health care debate -- Nancy Pelosi vowed to "go over, around, or through us" to pass a health care bill the American people don't want, and can't afford.
Now -- only a few days before the planned health summit with congressional leaders, the President has unveiled his massive $950 billion proposal, building on the flawed legislation passed by the House and Senate last year.
Despite demands from the American people to start over on health care -- the new White House proposal still increases penalties on businesses that do not sponsor the most generous health benefits, raises taxes, kills jobs, and increases costs.
Email Congress today and tell them we want them to start over to work toward real health care reform.
We do support health care reform, and we're willing to work with members of all political parties on a bipartisan bill that actually increases access to health care and reduces costs.
But we're going to do everything we can with your help to not allow these deeply flawed bills to be forced on the American people without a fight.
You can help us win this fight by emailing Congress right now.
Tell Congress that real reform doesn't threaten American employers, hurt American families with onerous new taxes, add billions to the federal deficit, or create a new government-run health insurance program.
Remind them that the American people don't support the current bills -- and they shouldn't either.
Thank you for emailing Congress today.
Sincerely,
Bill Miller

I am shocked and saddened that our Congressman would so proactively support any efforts to force Israel to put their people in harm’s way. Please read more on the following website:
Out and About
Soon we will be scheduling meet and greets at various Pizza Hut locations around the city. I will be posting the dates and the locations on the website, facebook, and in the Reetz Report as we schedule them. I hope a lot of you will be able to attend some of these and invite your friends!
This weekend I will be continuing to knock on doors and meet some more people. If you want to come out and help let me know!
We are still looking for volunteers to come help us knock on doors, make phone calls, and other various activities. If you are interested in helping the campaign in any way you can send an email to Alyson at alyson@reetzforcongress.com. For now she will be collecting all the volunteers’ information and will later pass it onto our Chief Volunteer Coordinator, John Fenton.
Once again, thank you for your support of our campaign. If you haven’t done so already please visit our website, www.reetzforcongress.com and see our latest updates.
Thanks!

Dear Friends,
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I had the opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful weather in Louisville on Sunday afternoon and met some great folks while walking the neighborhoods. My message was very well received and I feel encouraged by the feedback from them and their pledges to support me by voting in the primary in May.
The Lincoln Day Dinner on Friday was phenomenal, kudos to everyone who put it together. I enjoyed getting the chance to hear all the candidates from the Senate, Mayoral, and Congressional race speak. It was great to have the opportunity to speak about the issues to the Republican people of Kentucky. The Derby Pie wasn’t bad either.
I hope the weather continues to improve and we start having more weekends like we did this past one. We are currently working on a schedule for volunteers to come help us knock on doors and make phone calls to spread my message. If you are interested in helping the campaign in any way you can send an email to Alyson at alyson@reetzforcongress.com. For now she will be collecting all the volunteers’ information and will later pass it onto our Chief Volunteer Coordinator, John Fenton.
This week I will be attending a fundraiser at Tony and Fran Mastropaolo’s house and am very excited to meet new people and get their support. I will also be attending the Republic Bank Luncheon on Wednesday afternoon. I hope to get a lot of supporters by the end of this week with all the events I will be attending and all the calls I will be making.
If you haven’t checked out our website lately it is up and fully functioning. Our project now is getting a monthly calendar up and having a form for people to fill out to receive The Reetz Report. We are also updating our volunteer section so people can indicate through a check box of how they want to help. If you have any suggestions or things you want to see on the website please do not hesitate to let us know your thoughts. Again you can send them to Alyson.
We are going to start sending a Reetz Report out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so be looking for it in your inbox!
Once again, thank you for your support of our campaign. If you haven’t done so already please visit our website, www.reetzforcongress.com and see our latest updates.
Thanks!
